The Searcus

The project named “The Searcus” was conceived by Alga (Alessandro Mancusi, Lorenzo Lanni, Giuseppe Grassia), a group of architects graduated at “La Sapienza” University of Rome.

“The Searcus” offers a solution to enjoy beaches safely, considering the timing and economic factors for entrepreneurs in the tourism-hospitality sector. The project is about a fabric cover, like a shell (made by recycled materials such as  discarded fishing nets) which can be easily assembled on typical beach umbrellas. The cover is fixed in the sand by triangular flaps of fabric on which are applied curtains that can be opened or closed. The only fabric material allows the maintenance of a comfortable temperature even at the hottest hours. The under covered area is sufficient to ensure a good stay for those who use it and does not need an additional external perimeter to contain gatherings.

The ease of installation and dismantling of the fabric coverage also guarantees a fast and successful disinfection.

“The Searcus” will be expendable even after the coronavirus emergency, thanks to the comfort and privacy provided to its users.
